I am really happy to work with our sponsor, Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, today to share the beauty of their resort with you!
10 Reasons to Stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui & how to find relaxation, culture, & adventure all at one resort!
I am so excited for today’s post about the Fairmont Kea Lani! I’ve been dreaming about writing it ever since we began planning our trip!
We spent the day of our 5-year anniversary surrounded by Roger’s family & 11 nieces & nephews all under the age of 10. And while we had fun & I love them to death, I wouldn’t say it was romantic or adventurous. So to celebrate these last five years of marriage we decided to plan a special 5-year anniversary trip to Maui.
Now I know some of you might be thinking, wait, weren’t you just in Maui in February? Yes, it’s true, we were there for a continuing education course for my husband. And you know what we discovered? Spending half a day in classes while in Maui is not really how you want to spend your Maui vacation! So we decided a do-over was needed.
Good excuse, right?
And while I’ve only listed 10 Reasons to Stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, the truth is, there are so many more reasons not listed below!
While we have stayed at & visited many resorts along Wailea Beach, the Fairmont Kea Lani is the only one that we have been back to & plan on visiting again in the future. There are so many beautiful touches, unique features, & complimentary perks available to all guests that I would need to create a series of posts to be able to fully share about them all!
So before I get to my top 10 Reasons to Stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, I want to share a few the other amazing aspects of the Fairmont Kea Lani.
The Fairmont Kea Lani celebrated 25 years on Wailea beach last year, which means we are the same age! The only difference, outside of the fact that they are a resort & I am a human, is that they recently completed a $70 million renovation. It’s almost like a brand new resort!
Self-parking. That might seem standard, but on the shores of Wailea, that is a rarity at resorts. On days where you plan to spend the whole day relaxing by the pool, snorkeling in the ocean, & exploring the hotel I say, why not go for the valet parking.
However, if you are an early waker (6:00 am in Maui is actually 12:00 pm EST) who spends a lot of time between the hotel & adventuring around the island, you will be extraordinarily happy for self parking, especially if you come & go from your hotel 3-7 times in one day. Yes, it happens. Sometimes the need for a Hawaiian shaved ice, with a macadamia nut ice cream base, & a snow cap top hits you hard & you have to make a drive down the road.
A fun complimentary aspect of the Fairmont Kea Lani is that if you let the concierge desk know ahead of time that you are going to be driving the Road to Hana they will provide you with a complimentary cooler, towels, water, & audio tour cd for your day trip!
So now that I’ve shared a few bonus reasons, let’s get down to my top 10 Reasons to Stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui!
1. Every Room is A Suite
Imagine coming off a long flight with cramped seating, checking in with the warmest aloha, & then walking into a room, any room at the Fairmont Kea Lani, & it is a beautiful suite with lots of room to spread out in & relax.
Each room ranges from 860 to 1100 sq feet, so you will not only have plenty of space to relax & unwind, but you will never want to leave!
About halfway through our trip Roger & I accidentally started calling the Fairmont Kea Lani our home. We would be out exploring or exploring & then one of us would say something like, “let’s go home, relax, & watch the sunset with room service dessert!”
We loved to just lay around our suite, either in the bedroom, living area, or sunset-facing balcony in their cozy bathrobes drinking in the warm breeze.
And if you have a late departure flight, be sure to call ahead to see if you can get a late checkout. One last shower in their spacious bathroom is a wonderful way to end a dream vacation in paradise! You can see all of the beautiful accommodations here.
2. Gorgeous View
That view! I could spend hours just gazing out onto the ocean, watching the sun dance upon the water as it dips down below the horizon as the stars begin to wake up. And everywhere you look on the 22 acres of the Fairmont Kea Lani you will see something beautiful.
There is a reason they have won so many awards, including being in the top 10 Best Waterfront Resorts in the USA 2 years in a row.
There are beautiful views everywhere you look, you can even see up to the top of Haleakala on a clear day! When we stayed here at the beginning of the year we had a garden view & loved walking out from our room onto the property & sitting on one of their many oversized seats while enjoying the garden view & reading.
And if you are looking to find more photos of this beautiful property you can see them in the video I created here, or on the Fairmont Kea Lani’s website.
3. Delicious Dining
Oh, the food! You know how I love good food. Between the breakfast buffet, lunch by the pool, & dinner at KΕ your taste buds will be overjoyed with the options! You can discover them all by clicking here.
We both agreed that our favorite food experience of our vacation was at KΕ. The attention to detail, friendly service, & array of dishes was perfect. And even though we are vegetarians & non-alcoholic there were more options than the two of us could try in one night, even though we tried!
To begin our night at KΕ they brought us a unique tray of bread with edamame hummus, their vegetable tempura starter, & a variety of non-alcoholic drinks that delighted our taste buds & made us eager for more. Roger tried their Surfing Goat Dairy Cheese Fritter & I had their Mauka Harvest salad, & the Passion Fruit Vinaigrette was amazing!!
We then moved into the entrees where we shared the Soba Noodle Stir Fry, with tofu instead of chicken & the Vegetable Fried Rice with tofu instead of meat. To finish off this fabulous meal Roger enjoyed the Chocolate Decadence, which is a flourless cake he had been eyeing on the menu for several days. And I indulged on the Maui Vanilla Bean Brulee, which was so incredibly good, we ended up ordering it through room service again a couple nights later!
KΕ is most definitely a restaurant you need to try! It has received a number of awards, including being a five-time winner of Best Hawaiian Regional Cuisine!
4. Unique Cultural Activities
If you are seeking to gain a cultural understanding of the beauty around you the Fairmont Kea Lani has a variety of activities to bring you insight into the beauty of Hawaiian traditions.
On our first day, we spent an hour of our morning taking part in the Hawaiian Canoe Experience. We were a little worried about how strenuous the canoeing would be, but it was very easy & something even children (10+) could take part in. We paddled out from the beach & were able to get a unique view of the resort. We even were able to hop out of the canoe and snorkel a little bit.
While paddling back to shore we stopped for a moment to enjoy the view & as we were sitting there a turtle came up next to us and swam around for a bit before going back down.
And if paddling isn’t for you, they have a whole list of other cultural activities, including one that involves chocolate! You can find the whole list of resort activities associated with their Hawaiian Cultural Program here.
5. Inspire Your Energy Program
The Fairmont Kea Lani is always working on creating & curating programs that will inspire & benefit their guests. They have created a program called the Inspire Your Energy Program created to benefit their guests who are interested in fitness & wellness.
They have classes & activities along with a juice bar so that you can start your day off on the right foot. We especially enjoyed their juice bar that is located within KΕ in the morning. Even Roger, who is not a huge fan of kale, loved their Keola juice!
6. Romantic Environment
Maui is a wonderfully romantic island & the Fairmont Kea Lani knows how to capture & cultivate the romance in ways that are unforgettable!
Between the all-suite rooms with beautiful views, morning walks on the promenade along the beach of Wailea, a variety of more intimate dining options, like the Hoku Lani Dinner & the romantic twilight dinner you are sure to find romance at the Fairmont Kea Lani.
As we were visiting for our five-year anniversary, we were greeted by a sweet card, chocolates, & a sparkling drink to celebrate!
But don’t just take my word for it, this year BRIDES named the Fairmont Kea Lani as one of the top 10 resorts in Hawaii!
7. Extensive Gardens
I know I mentioned the gardens a little bit in number 2, but I needed to dedicate a whole number to the beauty of their gardens. Since the resort sits on 22 acres, you could spend a whole morning sipping on your coffee from the CAFFE CIAO BAKERY + MARKET as you wander throughout the property exploring the gardens.
As soon as you walk into the Fairmont Kea Lani you are greeted by alohas from the staff & a bamboo garden that is in the lobby directly to your left. Then if you continue walking straight, down the steps you will find an adorable koi pond & even a little pineapple garden.
Throughout their extensive property, the garden wonders around all of the corners & moves from palm trees, into the open grass with chairs, & you can even find fountains & a gazebo!
8. Crystal Clear Water
The Fairmont Kea Lani has a beautiful beach & clear water perfect for snorkeling! I know I already mentioned that it was named as being one of the top 10 Best Waterfront Resorts in the USA 2 years in a row, & for good reason!
We love swimming in this beautiful water amongst the tropical fishes & beautiful underwater world.
I could spend hours just swimming back & forth exploring while being greeted by turtles & listening for whales (in the winter).
9. Poolside Relaxation and Serenity
There are three beautiful pools to relax beside at the Fairmont Kea Lani.
We often laid out on the gently sloping hillside between the pool & beach which allowed us quick access to the pool, slide, & poolside treats from the Ama Bar & Grill. And yes, we loved the slide!
On our last day, we spent the day relaxing in a cabana at the adult pool, which included a cooler of drinks, welcome shade from the sun, & a variety of snacks and fruits complimentary with the cabana. This was a wonderful way to end our stay in Maui & if you love relaxing by the pool you will love the Cabana Experience & all that it has to offer, just be sure to book it ahead of time!
10. Professional and Courteous Staff
Something that Roger & I have noticed again & again is the kind, helpful, professional, & courteous staff at the Fairmont Kea Lani. They go above & beyond to make your stay unforgettable!
One unique feature that they have is a concierge text messaging service. You can text them anytime with any question & they will help you however they can. During our stay at the beginning of the year, we used this service multiple times to find restaurants in the area that fit or vegetarian lifestyle. This time we asked questions about the local area, such as if Ioa Valley had been reopened since the flood, which it was!
And if you are planning a trip to the Road to Hana you can even get a cooler, water, towels, & a cd guide, complimentary, the night before your trip!
Whenever I had a question (which was often, even though we have been to Maui 3 times in under 2 years) they were always eager to help!
I encourage you to discover for yourself the beauty & relaxation of the Fairmont Kea Lani by following them on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram & by learning more on Fairmont Kea Laniβs website.
