Create a Vintage Insulator Christmas Tree Topper in just a few minutes to enjoy all season long!
Over the last few weeks I have slowly begun to incorporate Christmas into our fall decor & I have created several new Christmas ornaments to hang on our Christmas tree. As I mentioned in my Doily Christmas Ornament post, I often look around my craft room for inspiration & new ideas.
As you well know I am obsessed with glass insulators. I am constantly trying to come up with new ways to use & decorate with them.
So when my eyes landed upon my collection of antique glass insulators I knew I had to come up with a way to use them, or at least one of them, in my Christmas decor.
My first thought was to turn it into a Christmas ornament, but I immediately ran into some problems.
One, I didn’t want to drill a hole in the top. So I tried to create a way to hang it without creating any permanent changes, but that just led to another problem.
Two, it hung funny on the tree with my non-permanent changes (mentioned below).
Three, even my small glass insulator was way too heavy for a Christmas tree branch.
But I wasn’t ready to give up.
I wanted to put my beautiful blue glass insulator on my Christmas tree.
So I decided to turn my antique insulator into a Christmas tree topper!
Not only was it incredibly easy to do, but it is absolutely adorable too!
I decided I didn’t need to try to fasten or tie it to the tree because it fit perfectly & securely on the top of our Christmas tree.
However, if you are worried about your glass insulator falling off the top of your Christmas tree you can always hot glue thin wire to the inside of the insulator (which I did when I was trying to turn it into an ornament), fit the insulator on top of your Christmas tree, & then tie the wire to the top branch(es). Or if the hot glue idea doesn’t seem sturdy enough for your insulator you can drill holes into the insulator as a way of attaching the wire. But I should note that I haven’t tried this.
I also added a pretty ribbon bow around the top of the insulator to add a little extra Christmas cheer.
I am in love with my Vintage Insulator Christmas Tree Topper!I especially love the color of the insulator & how the bow adds the perfect Christmas touch!
Although, to be honest, my Vintage Insulator Christmas Tree Topper didn’t ebb my desire to add glass insulators to my Christmas decor.
So I think I’m going to have to come up with more ways to add antique insulators to our decor this holiday season!
I’ll keep you posted!
