10 Fun Things to Do in Grindelwald Switzerland that will help you make wonderful memories in the mountains of Europe.
There are so many fun things to do in Grindelwald Switzerland!
We only had a small amount of time in Grindelwald, so we made the most out of the time we had in the Swiss Alps.
Our list of activities was long, and before we even arrived we knew we wouldn’t have enough time for half of our fun activity list.
But even though we weren’t able to do all of the fun activities available to locals and tourists I thought I would share the top 10 Grindelwald activities on our list.
And hopefully, this list of fun activities in Grindelwald Switzerland will help you narrow down what you hope to see and experience most on your next travel adventure!
1. First Cliff Walk
This metal walkway hangs from the cliffs with a sheer drop down the mountain.
There is also a lookout you can go out onto for an extra high picturesque view of the valley and mountains.
2. Hike the Eiger Trail
With so much to do we weren’t able to sneak in enough time to hike the Eiger Trail, but hopefully next time!
The hike is said to be 2 hours long, but knowing how much we love to stop and enjoy the view (with me taking a million pictures) we knew this would end up being more like 3-4 hours.
So we opted to spend our time experiencing other activities in the area.
On our last afternoon in Grindelwald, while enjoying the view from First, my husband mentioned that paragliding looked fun.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to add in this activity the next morning as the weather was windy, cloudy, and rainy… Not ideal paragliding conditions.
So we will have to save this for our next trip to Europe.
4. Hike to Bachalpsee Lake
This hike begins at Grindelwald First and from the pictures I have seen the lake is absolutely picturesque with the mountains in the background.
Sadly, our hike was rainy, cloudy, misty, foggy, and windy.
But it was still pretty, especially when the wind would push the clouds away and we could get a momentary glimpse of the height and majesty of the mountains around us.
5. The Train & Lift
This may sound funny, but I loved riding the train and lift in Grindelwald.
Not only are there beautiful sights to be seen from them, but you get a chance to rest your feet before heading off on your next adventure.
6. Ride a Mountain Cart or Bike Down the Mountain
We road a mountain cart down Grindelwald First and it was breathtakingly beautiful and absolutely terrifying all at the same time.
Roger loved it and sped down while I slowly coasted down the mountain with my feet firmly on the brakes.
Don’t worry, he was still chivalrous.
He would speed down and around a corner, wait for me to catch up, and then speed down again, waiting for me around every bend in the winding mountain cart road.
7. Hike Maennlichen
You can get to Maennlichen from the base using the gondola cableway.
Then it’s just a 15 minute hike up to the summit.
You can also get to the summit, also known as the Royal Walk, from Lauterbrunnen, which you can read about here.
We planned ahead and visited Maennlichen the day before our stay in Grindelwald and visited while staying in Lauterbrunnen.
8. Top of Europe – Jungfraujoch
We purchased the Jungfrau Travel Pass at the beginning of our stay in the Interlaken area, but unfortunately, you need an additional pass to go to the very Top of Europe.
So we opted out in order to have more time hiking and enjoying everything Grindelwald First had to offer.
9. Gletscherschlucht Glacier Canyon
Sadly there just wasn’t time for everything on our list, but this canyon was on our backup list for a fun rainy day activity.
You can feel like your flying on the First Flyer or the First Glider at Grindelwald First.
Both activities were sold out on the sunny afternoon we visited, but that didn’t keep us from making a plethora of memories doing other activities at First.
I recommend getting their early (we arrived in the afternoon), or at least in the morning, to sign up for activities before they are all booked up.
I hope you enjoyed this list of 10 fun Grindelwald activities!
