25 things to buy after Christmas that will save you money all year!
I’m not going to lie, I really like to shop. But what I love is a good deal, even better, a steal! Over the last few years I have fallen in love with some expensive stores with expensive price tags, but do you want to know a secret? I never pay full price!
Anthropologie, The Limited, J. Crew, etc. always has amazing deals that shock most people. The secret is to wait for those 30, 40, 50, or even 60% off deals before setting foot in any of their stores. Most of my closet is filled with Anthropologie tops & pants that were originally priced $75-$150+. But do you know how much I spend on average per top & per pants? $9.95!
Yes, half the time I am buying out of season clothing, but when you come across a pair of wine colored cords at Anthropologie for $9.95 you buy them, & then when you see it again for 40% off of $9.95 you buy a second pair. It’s just what you do (or I do).
I’ve received an increasing number of compliments on my clothing & when I tell people where I got the item they love they immediately dismiss that store being too expensive. Yes, full price is expensive, but then I tell them how much I paid for the $130 top & their mouth drops in disbelief. It’s so much fun!!
As you can see, I love deals & steals! My husband loves them too, although, let’s be honest, he likes it even more that I don’t spend his money when shopping! And I’ve got a lot of after Christmas saving to do this year!!
Seriously, look at all of these Things to Buy After Christmas that will save you money all year long! Why pay full price later when you can buy it heavily discounted now!?
1. Twinkle Lights
After Christmas is the best time to buy twinkle lights. They are on sale everywhere as stores are trying to quickly get them off their shelves to make room for spring items.
And if you have a wedding, party, or celebration coming up this is your chance to snag some great deals on lighting for your event!
2. Christmas & Winter Decorations
Just like the twinkle lights, stores want to get rid of this stock quick. This is your time to stock up & save on wrapping paper, ornaments, accents, garlands, greenery, candles, pillows, artificial Christmas trees, etc.
Now that Roger & I both have full-time paying jobs (Praise God!) we really want to decorate our house for Christmas, but we agreed to wait to buy the majority of the decorations until after Christmas. We decided it was worth the savings to wait & buy everything after Christmas!
3. Gifts & Presents
Think gifts for next Christmas, stocking stuffers, birthdays, engagement parties, bridal showers, weddings, Valentine’s gifts, teachers appreciate presents, baby showers etc. Make a list of all of the known parties, birthdays, & events you will be attending this next year & then start buy the gifts needed for them as you see them on sale.
4. Gift Cards
This might sound like a weird one, but it’s true. So many people will be receiving gift cards this Christmas that they don’t want or will never use. Often times you can find gift cards discounted online because people would rather have the cash (even if it’s less than the amount on the card) than the card itself.
5. Christmas Movies, Music, & Books
6. Winter Clothing & Summer
This is a weird one too. After Christmas, you can find a mix of winter clothing & summer clothing on sale. And it all depends on the store & the location.
For example, this last January or February (I really can’t remember) I bought over $100 worth of clothing online from American Eagle (for our Hawaii trip) for about $30. I also bought a scarf from J. Crew (in the store) that was normally over $50 for about $5.
Keep your eyes open by signing up for email notifications from your favorite store. That way you will be the first to know when their sale items are an extra 40% off!
7. Seasonal Food
Yes, I’ll say it again. Anything Christmasy & seasonal is a must buy after Christmas! Candy cane flavor, gingerbread cookies, etc. Just check the date. Usually, it will still have a good date, but since it’s no longer Christmas they put it on sale just to get rid of it!
Out with the old & in with the new! You can often find cars on sale in the fall as next years cars roll on the lot. So by the new year, any cars left are going to be heavily discounted as they really want them off their lot.
9. Cleaning Supplies & Bath Items
10. Kitchen & Baking Supplies
You can find all sorts of seasonal kitchen & baking supplies on sale after Christmas. Think Christmas tins, cookie cutters, baking pans, etc. Look for anything seasonal & you should find it on sale!
11. Party Supplies
You can find all sorts of party supplies on sale after Christmas. Most will look really Christmasy, but some of it can be used year round. Some items you can find on sale include disposable plates & silverware, table linens, & Christmas china sets.
12. New Year’s Party Supplies
A lot of Christmas decorations can transfer right on over to New Year’s party decorations & supplies. Anything gold, silver, white & back, like stars, plates, linens, etc.
13. Craft Supplies
Start stocking up on craft supplies for all year & especially next Christmas. You can find ribbon, tape, & even scrapbook supplies on sale after Christmas. And you can never have too much tape!!
14. Christmas Cards
Christmas Cards. Enough said.
15. Fitness Equipment
Now you won’t want to buy fitness equipment immediately after Christmas, wait until after people start losing their new year’s resolution drive, & then start snatching them up!
Just like cars, you can also find last years furniture on sale as they try to rid their floors of last year’s stock to make room for next year’s furniture.
17. Gift Sets & Gift Baskets
Buy them all! You can find them at places like TJMaxx, HomeGoods, Ross, & Marshalls. You might have to remove the Christmasy plastic or paper on the outside & put it in something more relevant, but at least you will have gifts for your coworkers, teachers, or distant relatives when the time comes!
18. Anything with a Christmas label
I’ve all but said, so we might as well say it now. Anything even remotely Christmasy, or even just with a Christmas label/tag, will more than likely be on sale after Christmas. Apparently, people becomes Scrooge immediately after Christmas & want nothing to do with the holiday anymore. But I have no problem with that, give me all the discounts!!
I don’t know why, but I do know this, a lot of electronics go on sale after Christmas.
Just remember what you are doing for the first few days of January & then buy a calendar on sale after the new year!
21. Inground Pool
This is one my parents did as a kid. Yes, it’s torture not being able to go swimming in a brand new pool, but think of the savings! Plus it will be all ready for the first day of summer!
Just like cars & furniture, even last year’s model of appliances will be on sale. But just like anything that is last years model, your options will be more limited, but also more discounted.
Apparently, everyone wants to get rid of last year’s version, including new mattresses.
24. White Sale Items
Yes, this is a thing & includes bedding items like sheets & pillow cases.
25. TV’s and Game Systems
I know this somewhat falls under electronics, but after Christmas is a great time to buy a game system on eBay, because demand will fall a large amount after the 25th. Also, my husband bought a TV a couple years ago after Christmas, because he heard somewhere that they had better than Black Friday sales on TVs after Christmas & that ended up being right. He got a large TV for almost $100 less than the prices on Black Friday for the same TV.

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
