5 tips for a Home Alone movie party to help you throw the most memorable Christmas movie night!
Watching Home Alone is a family tradition for the Millers.
Every year after Thanksgiving we watch Home Alone and every Christmas Eve we watch Home Alone 2.
Normally both of those are enjoyed at Roger’s parent’s home, but this year their home was under renovations, so we offered to host the after Thanksgiving Christmas movie party at our home.
Since Roger just started working on finishing the basement (aka his movie theater room) we needed to come up with a different space to watch the movie that was large enough to hold 20+ people.
Earlier this year, at our 4th of July party, we used this blow-up screen to watch a movie with the family after our fireworks show.
While it’s meant for watching movies outside, we decided to go ahead and blow it up in our living room for our Christmas movie night.
And it worked perfectly!
Roger and I have already had two more Christmas movie nights using this blow-up screen and we have another one planned for Christmas night with all of our family!
Although I love snuggling in bed while watching Christmas movies, there is something extra special and magical about watching a Christmas movie on this big screen in our living room.
The crazy part is that this blow-up screen is under $200 and it’s currently cheaper than when we bought it last summer!
This movie screen was my birthday present for Roger last summer, so I know it will make a great Christmas present too.
And I’ve already heard from some friends that they plan to order one for Christmas too!
Roger and I are hoping to watch Home Alone one more time this season (before we watch Home Alone 2 Christmas Eve) so I thought it would be fun to share with you 5 simple tips for creating your own Home Alone movie party this season!
Living Room Details:
Beige Sette | Upholstered Armchair | Tufted Upholstered Bench | White Sofa | Extra Large Rug | Flocked Christmas Tree | Faux Fur Tree Skirt | Champaign Ornaments | Velvet Pink Pillow | Pink Knit Pillow | Large Snowflake Pillow | Medium Snowflake Pillow | Tufted Throw Pillow | Mini Flocked Christmas Tree | Knit Blanket
1. Create a Cozy Space
Movie nights are extra fun when you get to snuggle into a comfortable couch with cozy blankets and lots of pillows.
We rearranged the furniture in our whole house so that there would be plenty of seats and everyone would have a good view of the movie.
And I must admit I had a lot of fun in the process!
2. Decorate with Signs, Printables, & Home Alone Movie Quotes
Creating the chalkboard sign was super easy, and while I couldn’t copy the font exactly, I did make the “e” at the end lowercase as they did.
Also, if anyone knows the significance of the lowercase “e” please send me a message or comment below!
I found a picture of Buzz’s girlfriend after a quick Google search and printed a copy of it to frame and place on our drink bar.
And I quickly made a Home Alone movie quote sign and have included it as a free printable at the bottom of this post if you’d like a copy of it to use at your next Home Alone party.
3. Add Christmas Snacks & Drinks
I held off on baking the latter two types of cookies until the party began (I kept them in the fridge until then) and once enough people had begun to trickle in I began baking them up.
We also had a popcorn bar with cheese popcorn, butter popcorn, salted popcorn, and cinnamon powdered sugar popcorn.
4. Play the Home Alone Soundtrack as Guests Arrive
We had Alexa play the Home Alone Soundtrack as guests arrived.
Although at some point, the kids started asking Alexa a bunch of questions and she stopped playing music.
If you don’t have Alexa you can also get the Home Alone Soundtrack 25th Edition here.
5. Pause for Macaroni & Cheese
Every year, right after Kevin says a prayer before eating (love that!), the clock strikes nine and Roger’s whole family talks about how sad it was that he didn’t get to eat his macaroni and cheese.
There are also a bunch of family members that always joke about wanting to eat macaroni and cheese because Keven’s mac & cheese looks so good, even after the big Thanksgiving meal!
So this year we planned ahead, bought a couple of family-sized frozen macaroni and cheese and had it hot and ready for this scene.
Right after Keven finished his prayer we paused the movie to dish it out.
Then we feasted on macaroni and cheese while Kevin went to work foiling the burglar’s plans.
I hope these tips help you as you plan your next Christmas movie night!
