5 tips for visiting Harder Kulm, the Top of Interlaken, while exploring Switzerland.
There are a plethora of places to visit while in the Interlaken, Grindelwald, Jungfrau area!
The list of places to go, things to see, and activities to experience can even be overwhelming.
And while I do have a list of 25 awesome Switzerland Experiences, I thought I would share a little bit more about one of the fun mini experiences we had on our trip to Switzerland earlier this year.
While we were in Switzerland we purchased a 3-day Jungfrau pass and we did our best to visit every place that is included in the pass.
One of these places included Harder Kulm, also known as the Top of Interlaken.
So after dinner, we headed to the modern funicular and took the ten-minute ride up to the top.
While we did see one brave soul hiking up to the top of Harder Kulm, I highly recommend you use your pass to get to the top of this mountain, it’s a steep climb!
And while you don’t need to dedicate a whole lot of time to this experience, we were only there for about an hour (from the ride up to the ride down) it is a fun little memorable place to visit.
So here are 5 little tips to help you make the most of your visit to Harder Kulm.
1. Visit at Sunset
Before we left (and even during our trip) I did a whole lot of research on the places we were going and one thing I noticed was that Harder Kulm was a great place to visit at sunset.
We used our Jungfrau pass to take the modern funicular (included in the pass – no additional cost) and enjoyed a beautiful sunset from this mountain top spot.
Just be aware that during peak season you may want to leave early if you want to watch the sunset at the top as there could be a long line for the funicular.
2. Wear sunglasses
Sunsets can be very bright, be sure to protect your eyes until the sun actually sets.
3. Stay through Dusk
The only problem with the sunset is that it is often too bright to actually enjoy the view.
But once dusk arrives you can really enjoy the beautiful colors of the sky without hurting your eyes.
Plus the crowds will begin to decrease as a lot of people leave once the sun dips behind the mountains.
4. Walkout on the overhang
It looks scary, and there may be a line, but you’ll love the picture you get from this vantage point with the sun setting behind you.
Plus you can still enjoy the view while standing in line for a picture.
5. Step away from the crowds
Once you do have your special picture, try to get away from the crowds to enjoy the view.
We found a little trail (just to the right of the overhang when facing the view) and walked down it just a little bit to enjoy some privacy away from all of the people.
I hope you enjoyed these 5 tips for visiting the Top of Interlaken!
