Oh, how I love you Christmas. I wait all year for this time of year & it always seems to go by so quickly! So this year I am determined to make time slow down by squeezing in as much Christmas as possible! I have Christmas music playing in every room, I’ve been drinking hot chocolate almost every day, & I’m dressing in lot’s of cozy layers to stay warm.
Even though I work from home our house is always freezing (thank you Roger) so I’m often bundled up in sweaters, vests, scarves, & cords. Even in the summer in Tennessee!! So since I have a tendency to wear a lot of my winter clothing all year long I prefer to change up my wardrobe during the holiday season to make it extra special, warm, cozy, & bright.
The moment I saw this red vest by Crown & Ivy at Belk I knew I needed to add it to my Christmas wardrobe. It’s so perfect! I paired this modern bright red vest with a sweet southern top & cozy navy cords from Crown & Ivy to create a blissfully bright & cozy outfit. I feel like it’s perfectly modern, southern, & classy for a day of Christmas shopping with your friends or a special Christmas date night with your true love (especially if turtle doves & gold rings are involved).
But I can’t keep this obsession with Christmas fashion to myself! So I’ve created a little list of 5 Ways to Dress for the Holiday Season.
1. Colors & Patterns
Creating a Christmas color scheme does not have to be difficult. It’s so easy to be drawn to your go-to outfits, but try to be extra intentional about creating Christmas colors in your wardrobe. Here are a few color scheme ideas to help you begin brainstorming your many Christmas outfit options.
Classic: Red, green, & gold
Modern Cassic: White, silver, blue
Modern (wedding trend): Wine, navy, evergreen
Gingerbread: Brown, tan, & white
Candy Cane: Red & white
Hot Chocolate: Brown, black, & white
Santa Clause: Red, white black, & gold
Layering is the easiest way to stay warm & cozy while showing you totally know how to match patterns, colors, & styles. Throw on a bright red vest &/or warm jacket to pull your look together & add extra warmth for the coldest hours of the Christmas season.
This can be the quickest way to add holiday season spirit to your outfit. You could add a seasonal Christmas scarf, diamond snowflake earrings, or a purse that fits within your chosen Christmas color scheme.
4. Dress Up
Dressing up this holiday season doesn’t have to mean wearing a dress. The right accessories (such as jewelry, a classy purse, scarf, heels, etc.) & makeup can turn a casual outfit into a dressy fashion statement for any Christmas party with just a few tweaks. For example, with the right skirt & heels, this Crown & Ivy top & vest can easily be swept from casual to fancy!
5. Dress for the Occasion
I’ve saved the most important tip for last. No matter what color scheme, accessories, or layers you add to your Christmas outfit make sure that you are dressing correctly for the occasion. Whether that means bundling up with extra layers for an outing to find the perfect Christmas tree or a classy dress for a special Christmas concert always be sure to check what the temperature will be & the required attire before planning your outfit for the event. And remember, it’s always better to be dressed a little nicer (while still staying warm) than it is to be underdressed (both for the occasion & warmth).
