Valentine’s Day is a special day to be with the people you love. This year my husband and I will be spending a quiet evening alone enjoying each others company, some good food, and a sweet dessert!
Here is a list of 10 ways you can have an Affordable Romantic Valentines with your special someone.
1. Flowers
Flowers are an easy gift but several changes can be made to make the gift extra special. One way to do this is to remove the plastic wrapping and rewrap the flowers in tissue paper or brown paper to give a special touch. Another option is to give something that will last longer than a few days like a plant – my personal favorites are an orchid or herb plant!
2. Book of Memories
This could be a homemade scrapbook with printed out pictures and handwritten notes or one that is made online and delivered to your door – like from Shutterfly. If you don’t have time to make a scrapbook a shadow box would make a wonderful alternative!
3. Sweets
Valentine’s Day is the perfect day for something sweet! Homemade or bought – nothing is better than a sweet treat for the one you love! If you want to make the day extra special give your special someone sweets leading up to the special day – like these White Chocolate Strawberry Scones!
3. Date Night
This could mean a date night in or out! For a fun night on the town take your special someone to their favorite restaurant or take a trip down memory lane by going to the place you ate on your first date! For a date night in see numbers 7 and 8.

5. Weekend Getaway
Weekend getaways don’t have to be expensive! Find a cute little Bed and Breakfast not too far from home and enjoy a romantic getaway with your spouse! If you love the outdoors – and you can brave the cold of February – you could go on a camping trip. Another option is to check out Groupon and Livingsocial they always have great deals.
6. A Handwritten Card
You don’t actually have to make a card – although it might be nice to get something made with love, but the important part is to write from the heart! – I still have all of the cards Roger gave me!
7. Movie Marathon
They don’t all have to be sappy love stories, they can be whatever you enjoy best! Valentine’s day is about the two of you so make it a night of your favorites!

8. A Special Meal
My husband and I shared our first valentine’s together in 2009. For some reason I decided to go all out for our first valentines as a dating couple, I made a huge meal – including homemade gnocchi for the first time – it turned into a crazy mess! What I learned is that a homemade meal doesn’t have to be a big to do, it can be something that you make for your loved one or that you make together while enjoying each others company!
9. Dessert Drive
I had to give this it’s own number because it definitely deserves one – especially since it was my husbands idea. Take your special someone on a dessert date. This means go to five different restaurants and get their favorite treat to share! These can be simple like going to Krispy Kreme for a donut, McDonald’s for an ice cream cone, or a cupcake from Gigi’s Cupcakes!
10. One on One time
Take an hour or two – or even a whole evening – to do your special someone’s favorites! This could mean making their favorite meal, playing their favorite sport – or video game, watching their favorite movie, or anything else that they love to do. Let them know that they are special to you and that what is important to them is important to you too!
