Summer weddings in the south are beautiful and romantic, but they can turn you into one hot mess in a matter of seconds if you are attending an outdoor wedding. Roger and I’s wedding was held at the end of June – prime melt down season – and I didn’t want our guests to be miserable the entire time. So along with the pre wedding treats – post coming this Friday – we made these DIY Fan Programs to keep our guests cool and comfortable. I only wish I could have had one! I was sure my face was melting right off of me!
At every wedding something is bound to go wrong and two things did at ours. One of them you can see in my tutorial for DIY Doily Cones coming later this week – our cake turned yellow! It was an accident… There were several cakes being put together at one time. So we think someone accidentally added yellow food coloring thinking the buttercream frosting was for a different cake. Although I would have preferred a cream/white cake I had no problem with it being yellow – it’s my second favorite color! Plus, it could have been a lot worse, it could have ended up blue or purple!
The second mishap was with our DIY Fan Programs. Even after proofreading it several times – and having others read it too – I accidentally married off my sister! In our wedding program she is listed as the Matron of Honor instead of the Maid of Honor! Oops! Oh well, funny memory right? Hopefully you won’t make the same mistake as me!
What you’ll need:
Program Information – We typed ours up, put a boarder around it where we wanted it cut, and took it to Kinkos. They printed our program information and cut along the lines! It was wonderful!

First, take one program and trace the outline onto the back of the scrapbook paper. Continue to do this until you have enough scrapbook paper outlined.
Note: I used the same program to trace all of the scrapbook paper so that only one would be in the line of fire of my pencil – aka my klutziness.
Next, use the straight edge paper cutter on the scrapbook paper to cut out the back of your programs. Continue to do this until all of the scrapbook paper is cut to size.
Finally, glue the program together.
There are a variety of ways to glue the fan program together.
We glued the wooden handle to the inside of the scrapbook paper, then glued the left and top side of fan program together. We then applied glue along the remaining edges, and added a little more hot glue to the top side of the wooden handle and pressed all of the edges together.
Note: You don’t want to apply a thick layer of hot glue because you run the risk of bumps and having the glue leak out. That also means you might want to work fast since a thin layer of hot glue will cool fast.
The best way to make these DIY Fan Programs is with a few friends or family. You can make a little assembly line to make it go faster – while one traces, another one cuts, someone else glues the first half, and then the final person finishes the gluing process. Time will go by faster and you will have a lot more fun!
A special thanks to my wonderful Roger Dale – who isn’t a fan of crafting – for helping me put together our DIY Fan Programs! I Love You!
With love, G
