Every year I get more & more excited because my little nieces are growing up to love all of the same things that I loved as a little girl. My niece Ellie – whom I share a birthday with – is turning 5 this Thursday, & since we wouldn’t be there to celebrate our birthday’s together I gave her this cute little DIY Glitter Cat Silhouette Picture last Saturday during our Valentines/birthday family celebration.
I had so much fun making this little DIY Glitter Cat Silhouette Picture last week that I must admit I had a hard time giving it up – it was so glittery! After I finished creating this DIY Glitter Cat Silhouette Picture I even walked around my house looking for something else to glitter, yes this project was that much fun! What’s great about this craft is that it is customizable! You can use any color of glitter & any animal or shape that you like.
This DIY Glitter Cat Silhouette Picture is the perfect little gift for a little girl who loves glitter & cats! Plus who doesn’t want an excuse to play with glitter!
Materials needed:
Printer & Card Stock Paper
Scissors
Scrap Paper
Fine Glitter
Paint brush – I just used a regular brush, but a sponge brush works great too
Picture Frame
Glue Stick
First, print out a picture that you like on white card stock paper. I found a picture of a cat with hearts on google, but I couldn’t find the original source. So I just clicked “view image” & then when I printed it I adjusted the settings by scaling the picture to the size I wanted it to be.
After you print it out, carefully cut out the cat & place it on a piece of scrap paper & apply a layer of Mod Podge. Carefully pull up the Mod Podged cat & place it on another piece of scrap paper & sprinkle the glitter on top. Let dry & then carefully shake off the excess glitter. Then repeat the above steps on the cat – Apply a second layer of Mod Podge & glitter, let dry, & shake off the excess glitter. Once dry apply a third layer of Mod Podge & let dry.
Repeat this same process with the the hearts & the frame.
*Note: By using a second scrap paper for the glitter part you are able to save & reuse more glitter that would have become stuck to the excess Mod Podge paper.
Then cut a piece of card stock to the size of your frame & glue the cat & hearts onto the paper with a glue stick & frame it in your new sparkly frame.
Chas later texted me this picture telling me that Ellie said “Wow I really really love this picture Giusti made me… It has all my most favorite things & colors.”
