These DIY Neutral Fall Acorns are made from Easter eggs and turned into beautiful fall decor for your home.
Years ago, way back in the fall of 2015, I shared a little tutorial for DIY Fall Acorns that over time has become one of my most popular fall tutorials.
Since then we have moved twice and somewhere along the line they went missing.
About 2 months ago I started noticing an increase in the number of people viewing this fall tutorial and I started wishing that I still had some to decorate with this year.
So I decided to recreate this fall acorn decor project, but with colors that went with our current color scheme.
Originally I was going to stick with just white farmhouse acorns, but after making them I realized that they looked too much like eggs.
So after wrapping all of the eggs in twine I decided to go back and paint them using some acrylic paint I had in my craft supplies.
While I would totally recommend painting them before wrapping them in twine, they turned out beautifully!
And even though I love the color combination of the different fall acorns, my favorite may be the ones I painted a deep bronze color.
First, open the plastic eggs and lay them flat on a large piece of cardboard or drop cloth.
Spray paint the plastic eggs white and let dry. Repeat this 1-3 more times until no color is showing through. I also sprayed mine with matte clear enamel spray paint for a protective layer before deciding to paint them different colors.
Next, paint the eggs if desired and let dry.
Wrap the top of the acorn in twine while hot gluing it in place.
Then hot glue a tiny twig on top of the twine.
Repeat this process to turn all of your plastic eggs into fall acorns.
I hope this DIY tutorial helps you as you decorate your home!
