How to dress for success even when you work from home in order to start the day out right & stay focused while working hard.
Have ever heard that saying, dress for the job you want?
I always applied that to my life, until I started working from home.
All through college, I dressed up for class. I can’t recall ever showing up to class in sweatpants & a t-shirt. Instead, I wore skirts, dresses, & dark jeans with a nice top.
Surprisingly, or not, it affected the way people looked at me. I was taken more seriously because I took my job (which in this case were my classes) seriously.
When I started working from home I had no idea what to wear. And eventually, I slid into the habit of throwing on sweatpants & a t-shirt or sweater.
And over the years of working from home, I can say with all honesty that I can see a difference between the days where I dress for success & the days where I just throw on whatever I find in the darkness of the morning.
So I’m determined to make a change & begin dressing for success on a daily basis.
Dressing for success inspires me to start the day out right & to stay focused while continually working hard. Because it is all about dressing for the job you want.
While I want to continue working from home, the big dream for me is to eventually grow my brand large enough that I am able to hire people to work with me.
And while I’m hustling to reach this goal in the next few years, I want to continue to dress for a successful day of work at home.
So for me, that means rising early (think 6:15 am), getting dressed before 8:00 am, & keeping myself looking fresh & ready for success from the bottom of my sparkly toenails, to my freshly colored hair with Schwarzkopf Keratin Color products. Especially since Keratin Color cares for your hair with less hair breakage, a pre-treatment for an even color result, & intense colors.
And as more & more people, especially millennials, are working from home I want to encourage you to consider how you can prepare for a successful day by dressing for your job at home.
So I am super excited to be partnered with Schwarzkopf Keratin Color at Walmart & Dress for Sucess® to share with you 3 tips to help you dress for success while working at home along a tutorial sharing my transformation with Schwarzkopf Keratin Color products.
It’s definitely a win-win to be able to work from home & also be able to obtain professional quality hair color at home that offers flattering colors while caring for your hair.
And I have had so much fun learning about Dress for Success® & how Keratin Color brings out confidence in every woman by gently restoring & augmenting her hair. With every purchase of Keratin Color, we can also help women get a fresh start through a partnership with Dress for Success®.

First, I laid out all of the Schwarzkopf Keratin Color products & carefully read the instructions.
I then put on the gloves & did a patch test on my inner elbow on my left arm.
Once the patch test was complete I applied the Pre-Treatment to the ends of my hair.
1. Don’t Let Go
One of the easiest things to do when you start working from home is to let yourself go. It’s easy to think, “Hey, no one will see me, I don’t need to shave!”
But if you begin to slack off in one area, chances are you will begin to slack off in another. And you definitely don’t want that area to be work.
So to keep me balanced I try to keep myself presentable. And since details matter, that means I am trying to remember to look nice from the top of my head down, with Schwarzkopf Keratin Color products, to the tip of my toes.

Next, I mixed bottle 2a & 2b according to the instructions & applied it to every strand of my hair.
Ps. You can get a good look at my hair before the Espresso Schwarzkopf Keratin Color treatment in the middle photo above!
2. Prepare the Night Before
Being prepared the night before is a huge time saver in the morning. And even though you save time with your commute (mine is only about a dozen or two steps away), time is money!
So at night, I like to shave, prepare my clothes, & plan my meals. That way, in the morning, I can get Roger out the door & start my day ready to go!

After waiting the allotted time I rinsed, until the water ran clear, towel dried my hair, & applied the Keratin Care Complex Conditioner according to the instructions. Once complete I styled my hair & was ready for work!
3. Dress Like Someone Will See You
After you start working from home for a few months you start to notice that you have a collection of clothes that are for “going out.” And because they are “nicer” you don’t want to wear them when you are by yourself at home, especially when your job involves any number of messy objects throughout the day.
This is where tip two comes in handy. I check my schedule the night before so I know how to dress properly for the next day.
If I will be working with paint, stain, or any other number of messy material I pull out a pair of paint pants & a paint-splattered top. If I am going to be cooking & photographing I try to wear neutral colors so my clothing doesn’t affect the coloring of the photos.
For those days sitting behind a computer, I often wear pieces that are older but still nice enough for a quick trip to the store if need be.
And when it comes to makeup I wear just enough so that if someone swings by my house I don’t have to go running for cover.
It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it’s dressing for the job at hand while presenting yourself for the job you want.

I am SO bad about dressing in my comfy clothes on my days off, or during the summer when I am able to work from home. I LOVE these tips, and plan on using them when I can hopefully make photography and blogging my “full time” job. Also that hair color is so pretty on you! Perfect for fall.
Thanks, Rebecca, for your kind comment! I hope the tips help & that you are able to make your dream job a reality soon! 🙂
I completely agree with you on dressing for success even when you are working from home and the only person that will see you is the mailman. Getting dressed will boost your attitude and allow you to accomplish so much more!
So true, Amy! I’ve even recently started a section in my closet for my work at home clothing. It really helps me move faster in the morning because even trying to figure out what to wear when no one is going to see me is difficult for me! 😉
You hair looks great. I like to color at home too, and I have never heard of this brand. will have to be on the lookout for it!
Thank you, Harmony! I hope you are having a blissful day! 🙂
First off, your hair color looks great! Second, I’ve been working at home for about 7 years now, and it totally makes a difference when I dress in my standard ‘uniform’ (workout clothing) and when I dress a little nicer. Today I put on a cuter outfit than usual, and I do feel better. Thanks for sharing these ideas! #client
Thanks, Carrie! I’ve been loving the darker color!
I hope you have a blissful day! 🙂
This is a really great idea and suggestion. I always stay in my sweats of jeans. Never think of you points. I guess I have to change a bit. Thanks for this article.
Thanks, Zuzana! I hope they help & you have a blissful day! 🙂
