Whenever I am in need of some creative inspiration I head to Hobby Lobby & they never disappoint. One of the things that I love about Hobby Lobby is that you can not only buy adorable decor there, but if you can’t afford it you can also make it yourself.
During a recent trip to Hobby Lobby I saw an adorable fall chalkboard sign that I had to have, but I knew I couldn’t fork over the $19.99 when I could make it myself. And luckily I already had all of the supplies I needed at home!
A year ago I bought this mini chalkboard for $1.00 at Walmart with the intention of adding another layer or two of chalkboard paint, but I never gotten around to it. So when I saw the above Hobby Lobby fall chalkboard I knew immediately that I could recreate this fall decor by using things I already had at home.
I even already had the burlap fabric, which you might remember I used to create my DIY Dandelion Burlap Art – also inspired by a trip to Hobby Lobby.
What I love about this I Am Thankful for DIY Chalkboard Sign is that I was able to recycle & upcycle a piece of cardboard & twine, plus it doesn’t hurt that I didn’t have to spend a dime.
This I Am Thankful for DIY Chalkboard Sign is the perfect addition to my fall decor & a great way to remember thankfulness throughout the holiday season.
Chalkboard Paint – optional
Hot Glue Gun & Glue
Twine Scraps – optional
Duck Tape – optional
I first gave my little chalkboard two coats of chalkboard paint, letting it dry thoroughly between each coat. Then cut off a piece of the cardboard that is just a little bit bigger than the chalkboard.
Place the cardboard on top of the burlap & cut the burlap with one inch excess around the edges.
Hot glue the 1 inch excess burlap to the back of the cardboard.
If you want to hang your I Am Thankful for Chalkboard Sign add a piece of scrap twine to the back of the cardboard. I hot glued it & then duck taped it ensure it wouldn’t fall off.
Hot glue the chalkboard to the front of the burlap canvas, write I am thankful for with a chalk marker (to give it a more permeant appearance), & your answer with chalk.
That’s it! I saved $19.99 using supplies I already owned & now I have brand new fall decor inspired by Hobby Lobby!
I’d love to see your Thankful For DIY Chalkboard Sign!
