As a lover of all things related to books and reading, combined with my love for fall it was a necessity that I share with you how to make this Simple Book Pumpkin. The best way to make this pumpkin, because it does take some time, is to do so while watching a movie – maybe something festive like It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
What you’ll need:
A book – I like to find free books for my crafts. I usually pick them up from the free bins at used book stores and I have also seen free books on Craigslist. My most recent find was a huge stack of old encyclopedias!
X-ACTO Knife – I bought mine from Hobby Lobby
Orange and Brown Markers – optional
First, draw the shape of the pumpkin. This can either be done by hand or by using a bowl as a guide.
Next, hand sketch the shape of the stem – above is a picture that shows two ways you could sketch the stem, like a square or like a triangle.
Use the X-ACTO Knife to cut out the top pages of the shape. Continue to cut until all of the pages are in the shape of the pumpkin.
Now you can either leave the pumpkin plain or add color on the edges with the orange and brown markers.
Fan out the pumpkin and enjoy your new fall décor!

Great idea! I love books too and though it’s kinda sad to tear them off, I love crafting with old books!
I agree! The first time I destroyed a book for a DIY project I felt like I had committed some sort of literature crime!
