I am so excited about my Valentine’s Day theme & especially this chalkboard art! I have been dreaming about this You Have Bewitched Me, Body & Soul chalkboard since Christmas! Oh & don’t worry hardcore Jane Austen fans I know this quote isn’t in the book, but it looks so pretty on my mantel! However I do have some free Jane Austen printable quotes!
After a last minute debate over which quote I should write I switched gears from this movie quote to a Jane Austen quote. I had originally sketched out To love is to burn, to be on fire. but my heart kept yearning for the movie quote so I gave in & started over – & I am so glad I did!
It might surprise you but I actually use good ol’ chalk for my big homemade chalkboard instead of chalk ink. I love the traditional look, especially the erased chalk marks in the background, & even more so I love that it is so easy to erase & fix my many mistakes along the way.
I also learned a new trick with the chalk! I accidentally left a few pieces of my broken chalk on a damp paper towel – the one I use to fix my mistakes – & then picked them up to use again. I found that the damp chalk left a thicker, whiter, chalkier impression on the chalkboard. I repeated this accidental discovery & found that if the chalk is too wet all the way through it won’t work at all. So basically if the chalk has been sitting on a damp cloth for too long it won’t draw, but if it is just slightly damp it works like a charm! Weird right? Yet now that I have used chalk like this there is no going back!
My inspiration came from several Pinterest pictures with the same font. I tried to figure out which was the original, but it turns out I am not the only one to copy this beauty. So if you know which is the original please let me know so I can link back!
Oh & the side & corner leaves are similar to those on the wreath in the May Your Days Be Merry & Bright Christmas chalkboard art tutorial. Also I know some people were interested in this big chalkboard so here’s a link to the tutorial of how I made it!
This is just the beginning of my Jane Austen Valentines theme decor! I am hoping to share 1-2, maybe even 3, Jane Austen inspired posts a week between now & Valentine’s Day – so I hope you love her as much as I do!

I love Jane Austen and this quote! I’m actually reading Mansfield Park right now, and I can’t get enough of it. It’s a perfect inspiration for Valentines Day. I might just have to put this on my big chalkboard, too!
